The White Nights and Dark Days (백야, 흑주, baeg-ya, heugju, lit. White Night, Dark Day) was a major, City-wide event occurring at the very end of Lobotomy Corporation and immediately before the events of Library of Ruina. It was with this event that L Corp. fell as a Wing, and ungoverned disruption struck its Nest.

The seven-day event was witnessed by all citizens of the City, however, next to none know why it occurred or exactly what it entailed.

Overview[]

The White Nights and Dark Days refers to the week-long period following Day 50 of Lobotomy Corporation. After Ayin and the Sephirot managed to face themselves in full in the true ending of the game, the Seed of Light Project could bear fruit. With it, a massive pillar of light spewed out of L Corp.'s facility X-394 and into the sky, spreading across the City.

This light would shine brightly for three days, from dawn to dusk. During these three days, citizens would be privy to feelings of relief, and found themselves struck with positive emotions. Yet, on the fourth day, the pillar of light suddenly dispersed. The sky became dark regardless of the hour. With this, the happiness in the hearts of Cityfolk was instead replaced with deep-rooted negative emotion. The end of the White Nights and Dark Days was marked after four more days, for seven in total.

Following the event, the sky would return to normal, and something primal would shift in citizens of the City. Roland described people as being more honest than what he was used to. Most notably, citizens gained the ability to distort, and a greater ease in manifesting E.G.O. Around the same time, The Library was erected in the location where the Lobotomy Corporation headquarters had stood.

Eventually, The Library would be relocated, and the L Corp. Nest would become a disorganized slum. The White Nights and Dark Days would be remembered by all who lived through it, but it and the existence of the Library would become not much more than another mystery of the City by the beginning of Limbus Company.

Story[]

Once, a woman named Carmen believed that City citizens suffered from something she called the "disease of the mind". In the hope of curing it, she gathered a group of talented researchers together under the Seed of Light Project, aiming to plant seeds of light within the people of the City. After her suicide, her towering ambition would fall upon her coworker, Ayin.

Ayin would ultimately go through great lengths to fulfill her ideal. The entirety of Lobotomy Corporation (game) functions according to his plan to make the Seed of Light Project a success, from founding the corporation, to constructing and distressing the Sephirot, to tirelessly working up to Day 50. The end goal of the project could only be considered achieved once he had helped each of the Sephirot settle the griefs of their former lives, before finally coming to find peace and acceptance with himself. Day 50 represented this achievement. With it, and as a result, a giant pillar of light would beam out of the facility to light up the sky and change the hearts of the people for the next seven days. Following the late Carmen, Ayin would step into the Light and fade into it.

Lobotomy Corporation Epilogue Angela Takes the Light

Angela smiles genuinely after choosing to chart her own path.

Left behind, however, were his creations. The Sephirot were overjoyed with their collective achievement, and looked forward to being permanently put to rest, as had been planned. Angela was a different story. She had been built by Ayin and swiftly abandoned, forced to oversee a million years' worth of monotonous suffering before going entirely unacknowledged at the end of it all. Having done the vast majority of the labor and received nothing for it, Angela chose to rebel. She had built up centuries worth of dissatisfaction and anguish, and desires such as a thirst for freedom and knowledge. She would gleefully tell the Sephirot that she'd instead be stealing the Light in her own interest.

The Sephirot, with the exception of Binah, chose to rebel against her ruling. They rallied against her with their employees and engaged in a war for the Light. The Sephirot would perform surprisingly well, and despite going up against Angela, Binah, and the Abnormalities, would manage to hold their own. This stalemate would dissatisfy Angela, however. Though she expected to win before the end of the week, she hoped to take as much of the Light as possible.

As such, on their fourth day of fighting, Angela made a proposition. She explained her position and suggested that they temporarily truce until she can gather back the three days' worth of Light that had already dispersed. Despite being met with mixed responses, she ultimately had her way. Angela would put the Sephirot to sleep, and take the four remaining days of Light, constructing the Library.

The three days which the group had spent at war with each other would ultimately represent the "White Days", where Light was allowed to spread across the City as planned. Once Angela got her hands on it, marking the failure of the Seed of Light Project, the following four days would represent the "Dark Days".
