Overview |
"Он бы хотел совсем забыться, все забыть, потом проснуться и начать совсем сызнова."
Rodion (Hangul: 로지온, Rojion) is designated Sinner #9 of Limbus Company's LCB department.
More frequently known as Rodya (Hangul: 로쟈, Rojya), she is a lighthearted and nonchalant woman with a preference for informal conversation. She was previously affiliated with the Yurodiviye, having worked to overturn the injustices of the District 25 Backstreets prior to joining Limbus Company.
She is the focus character of Canto II: The Unloving.
Appearance[]
Rodion is a tall and well-built woman with a pale complexion. She possess slightly messy, hip-length copper hair, deep blue eyes with pink eye shadow and a beauty mark under her right eye. On her left breast is a tattoo of what appears to be an anatomically correct heart; Though difficult to make out, it may be the same one in her official character icon.
She wears the standard Limbus Company uniform (white dress shirt, black slacks, vest and a coat marked with 'RODYA' and NO.9'), though she forgoes the tie and leaves her collar hanging loosely and wears a thick belt across her waist. Rodion also dons a thin black choker.
Rodion wields an axe with 'РАСКО́Л' spelled out on the head.
Personality[]
Rodion is a fun-loving, laid-back woman who makes an effort to be on friendly terms with her fellow Sinners. Her speech is exceptionally casual, preferring to be called Rodya and possessing a tendency to give others cute nicknames. She'll often end her sentences with a giggle or cheeky remark. Rodya expresses a desire to be included in the group's antics and ensure that everyone is getting along, valuing their relationships with one another. She treats more vulnerable or actively upset Sinners in ways that sometimes comes off as babying or insulting to other members of the group, but her nature makes it clear she isn't acting out of ill will.
She is accurately described as easygoing, or even lazy. Often she can be seen complaining about a lack of high-quality food or the group's heavy workload. Despite this, Rodya does not appear to be unwilling to put in any effort, but rather someone who is determined to take advantage of the slow times and luxuries of life available to her. She openly admits to loving both money and gambling and views the world as a place where wealth is the sole deciding factor for one's quality of life.
Rodya also possesses a colder side which reveals itself when confronted by things she prefers to avoid, such as Sonya or her past. Despite her attentive and caring personality, she shows no concern for Sonya's wellbeing as the cave collapses at the end of Canto II, neglecting to offer him any parting words and growing uncomfortable when the Sinners "care more about Sonya['s deal] than [her]". Such reminders of her previous life cause Rodya to grow unusually indifferent and dismissive, testifying to her desire to let go of the memories which drag her down and become a new person she can be comfortable with. Yet, it is likely the case that these are closer to her true feelings than not. After the group parts with the Yurodiviye, Dante notes that "beneath her grin, Rodya's eyes were shaking with distress, but she soon covers it up with a guise of joviality as if nothing ever happened", suggesting that she relies on her confident, upbeat nature as a persona for covering up her internal weaknesses. While she often grows serious during general somber affairs, she has a tendency to tease her way out of situations or conversations focused on herself.
What is known of Rodya's history shows a strong commitment to her morals and no tolerance for hypocrisy. She is strong-willed in her kindness to the point of cutting off the person she'd grown up with out of disgust for his inability to act on the ideals he preached. Beyond that, she shows no regret for doing so. Sonya continually remarks that she commits these kinds of acts due to a desire to prove that she is special, however she denies these claims and continues to seek a life defined not by him, but herself.
Rodion's indulgence in gambling and her carefree attitude epitomize the insidious nature of gacha gaming and its detrimental effects. Much like the dangerous allure of pulling rare items or characters in gacha games, Rodion is drawn to the thrill of chance and the potential rewards it promises. Her fixation on money and gambling underscores her attraction to the unpredictable and often exploitative mechanics of such games. Rodion's casual approach to life and her tendency to trivialize serious matters reflect the harmful impact of gacha gaming, where players can develop addictive behaviors and suffer financial losses chasing after elusive rewards. Her carefree demeanor masks the deeper consequences of addiction and irresponsible spending, highlighting the damaging cycle perpetuated by these games, where enjoyment can quickly spiral into destructive habits with lasting repercussions.
Weapon[]
Rodion's main weapon is her battle axe 'РАСКО́Л'.
- As LCCB Assistant Manager Rodion, she utilizes an electric baton.
- As Kurokumo Clan Wakashu Rodion, she wields a katana, mainly pulled out from the sheath at her right except at certain circumstances when she attacks.
- As N Corp. Mittelhammer Rodion, she wields the standard Inquisition hammer and nail.
- As Rosespanner Workshop Rep. Rodion, she wields a mechanical rod made of two prong mini chainsaw, similar to Niko.
- As Zwei Assoc. South Section 5 Rodion, she wields a stun baton held at her right hand, primarily using it to attack.
- As Dieci Assoc. South Section 4 Rodion, she does not have a weapon and instead uses hand to hand combat, with the stole she wears enhancing the power of her strikes.
Trivia[]
- Like all of the Sinners, Rodion voiced a "Document Excerpt" Youtube short.
- Rodion derives her name and nickname from the protagonist of Fyodor Dostoyevsky's novel Crime and Punishment. This connection is further reiterated through the characterization of Sonya, who takes his name from another character from the same novel.
- In Crime and Punishment, Rodion is an impoverished man who, hoping to restart his life, kills a corrupt pawnbroker. It is stated later in the novel that he also commits this murder to prove himself as being "special." Sonya reinforces this mentality regarding the murder that Rodion commits in Limbus Company, revealed through Canto 2-19
- In Canto 2-19 in Limbus Company, replicating Rodion's confession of the murder he commits in Crime and Punishment, Sonya tells Rodion that "This is a confessional created for you as a result of the Golden Bough resonating with your psyche." This is similar to how in Crime and Punishment, Sonya serves the purpose of leading Rodion to confessing his crime.
- Crime and Punishment's Rodion is best seen as two characters. He sometimes acts in one manner and then suddenly in a manner completely contradictory. These actions compel one to view him as having a split personality or as being a dual character. Perhaps the best description of Rodion occurs in Part Three, Chapter 2 when Razumihkin tries to explain to Rodion's mother, Pulcheria Alexandrovna, and to his sister, Dunya (Avdotya Romanovna) how Rodion has been acting lately: "He is morose, gloomy, proud and haughty, and of late — and perhaps for a long time before — he has been suspicious and fanciful. He has a noble nature and a kind heart; he does not like showing his feelings and would rather do a cruel thing than open his heart freely. . . It's as though he were alternating between two characters." These two characters are best represented as his cold, intellectual detached side, which emphasizes power and self-will, and his warm, humane compassionate side, which suggests self-submissiveness and meekness. The intellectual side is a result of his deliberate and premeditated actions; that is, when he is functioning on this side, he never acts spontaneously, but instead, every action is premeditated. It is this aspect of his personality that enables him to formulate his theories about crime and to commit the crime.
- Rodion often has the habit of giving everyone nicknames. Examples include calling Gregor "Greg", Ryōshū "Shū", Don Quixote "Chiquita", and Ishmael "Ishy".
- "РАСКО́Л" means "split" or "division" in Russian; it makes up the first half of the literary Rodion's last name, Raskolnikov (Раскольников).
- Rodion's voice actress, Yoon A-young, previously voiced Dalloc, Elena, Gloria, and Xiao in Library of Ruina.
- She is seen to have a considerable amount of grip strength. This allows her to hold down even Heathcliff, which was first seen in Intervallo III.
