“Είμαι... ου τις απολύτως.”
Outis (Hangul: 오티스, Otiseu) is designated Sinner #12 of Limbus Company's LCB department.
Outis is a brusque and assertive woman with a poorly-disguised inclination to look down on those around her. She was previously affiliated with the Smoke War, having gained a tendency to judge others based on her experiences there prior to joining Limbus Company.
She will be the focus character of the currently unannounced Canto XI.
Appearance[]
Outis is portrayed as a brown-skinned woman of average build and height, with yellow eyes and short, brown hair. Her uniform is comprised of a short black jacket, a white dress shirt, a red necktie, formal black pants and black combat boots. She also has two gold earrings on her left ear, a wristwatch on her left wrist, and carries her sword sheathed on her hip. Overall, Outis's uniform is well-kept, professional and lacks any adornments.
Personality[]
Being a military veteran, Outis is shown to be strict, commanding and rigorously adhering to the chain of command. Compared to other Sinners, she is shown to be rather subdued and relatively normal, as she approaches most scenarios with a cool-head and tactical mindset. Outis has a noticeable sycophantic relationship towards Dante, as she is quick to offer them advice on what to do next and to defend them from any criticism, even from Vergilius. However, many of her compliments towards them also have a subtle sense of back-handedness to them.
To her fellow Sinners, Outis is quick to admonish them for their reckless behavior and point out their flaws. Outis does not tolerate cowardice and was quick to suggest in removing Sinclair from the team, due to his anxiety. As her file points out, Outis has a cunning personality and a mysterious past that is classified, which also warns of potential treachery.
Weapon[]
Outis wields a Greek blade known as a kopis on her scabbard hilt with the word "Ουτις" etched at the edge of the blade.
- As Blade Lineage Salsu Outis, she wields a jikdo (straight blade), sheathed unless drawn to attack.
- As Seven Association South Section 6 Director Outis, she wields a sword and a cane axe.
- She does not wield any weapon as G Corp. Head Manager Outis, but the genetic modification on her head allows her to utilize effects from the antennas.
- As Molar Office Fixer Outis, she wields a serrated hand saw-like blade, similar to Olga in Library of Ruina.
- As Cinq Assoc. South Section 4 Outis, she wields a standard Cinq Association rapier.
- As Lobotomy E.G.O::Magic Bullet Outis, she wields the E.G.O equipment Magic Bullet in its set: Weapon, Suit and Gift.
- As Wuthering Heights Chief Butler Outis, she utilizes a serviette in her arm.
- As The Ring Pointillist Student Outis, she wields a modified paintbursh.
- As The W Corp L3. Cleanup Capitan, she uses her fists, as an analogue to Rose from Library of Ruina.
Origin[]
Outis is a title for Odysseus, the character from the original work. Odysseus has the defining character traits of a Homeric leader: strength, courage, nobility, a thirst for glory, and confidence in his authority. His most distinguishing trait, however, is his sharp intellect. Odysseus’s quick thinking helps him out of some very tough situations, as when he escapes from the cave of the Cyclops in Book 9, or when he hides his slaughter of the suitors by having his minstrel strike up a wedding tune in Book 23. He is also a convincing, articulate speaker and can win over or manipulate his audience with ease. When he first addresses Nausicaa on the island of Scheria, for example, his suave, comforting approach quickly wins her trust.
Like other Homeric heroes, Odysseus longs to win kleos (“glory” won through great deeds), but he also wishes to complete his nostos (“homecoming”). He enjoys his luxurious life with Calypso in an exotic land, but only to a point. Eventually, he wants to return home, even though he admits that his wife cannot compare with Calypso. He thinks of home throughout the time he spends with the Phaeacians and also while on Circe’s island. Sometimes his glory-seeking gets in the way of his home-seeking, however. He sacks the land of the Cicones but loses men and time in the process. He waits too long in the cave of Polyphemus, enjoying the free milk and cheese he finds, and is trapped there when the Cyclops returns.
Homeric characters are generally static. Though they may be very complex and realistic, they do not change over the course of the work as characters in modern novels and stories do. Odysseus and especially Telemachus break this rule. Early in his adventures, Odysseus’s love of glory prompts him to reveal his identity to the Cyclops and bring Poseidon’s wrath down on him. By the end of the epic, he seems much more willing to temper pride with patience. Disguised as a beggar, he does not immediately react to the abuse he receives from the suitors. Instead, he endures it until the traps he has set and the loyalties he has secured put him in a position from which he can strike back effectively.
