Overview |
« Aujourd'hui, j'ai tué maman. Ou peut-être était-ce hier. »
Meursault (Hangul: 뫼르소, Moereuso) is designated Sinner #5 of Limbus Company's LCB department.
Meursault is a reserved and complacent man. He has a desire to be clearly communicated with. He was previously affiliated with N Corp where he also lost his husband, John Bhalde. He joined Limbus Company due to his divorce.
He will be the focus character of the currently unannounced Canto X.
Appearance[]
Meursault is a well-built man with slicked-back black hair and small green eyes. He possesses a sharp face with a thick neck and wide eyebrows. He wears the Limbus Company vest. He opts not to overlay it the standard company coat. Underneath his vest is the typical white collared shirt and red tie. His ID hangs from his right breast. Meursault's belt is different from the other sinners'. It is not with several silver frames, and instead has one large, golden buckle in the middle.
Meursault wields two elbow-length gauntlets in battle. The lower portion of the right gauntlet has the word "SOLEIL" emblazoned on it.
He is sinner No.05. This is not displayed on his base clothing. Meursault is also of considerable height. He is the tallest amongst all the other sinners.
Personality[]
Meursault is a very prompt man, only doing what he is told. He speaks bluntly and concisely, never mincing his words.
He is emotionally distant. He never emotes and never involving himself in anything unless ordered to. He seems to lack an awareness of the world around him, mainly regarding the welfare of others. Meursault often fails to see the importance in other's emotions. An example of such is failing to mention, or offer a hand when they are visibly stressed. An example of such is when he only reveals after prompting by Dante that he noticed Sinclair was having an anxiety attack. This was due to the memories brought by returning to Calw. Another example is when Aeng-du dragged Kim away to kill him, yet never said anything.
By Canto VI, he begins to show initiative. This is demonstrated through suggesting that to protect Heathcliff from further harm, they must stop the lightning strikes, even if it costs them the Golden Bough. Thus, he uses his EGO to bind the Erlking in place without any prompting from anyone. During the credits of said Canto, he shows visible frustration, though why is currently unknown.
In the Intervallos leading up to Canto X, he is shown sometimes visibly distressed. He still maintains his calm demeanor and stoic demeanor. He maintains that he is "completely fine" and that the other Sinners should not be worried for him.
Weapon[]
Meursault wields his gauntlets "SOLEIL" in battle, mostly fighting bare-handed.
- As Liu Association South Section 6 Meursault, he uses gauntlets similar to SOLEIL, but enhanced with flames.
- As W Corp. L2 Cleanup Agent Meursault, he wields a W Corp-charged hatchet.
- As N Corp. Großhammer Meursault, he wields a large nail that is over half his height in length. There is a noticeable red cloth ribbon tied around the blunt end of the nail. This is the same weapon Guido uses in the main story.
- As Rosespanner Workshop Fixer Meursault, he wields a cog-run Rosespanner hammer.
- As R Corp. 4th Pack Rhino Meursault, he wields a R Corp. manufactured gauntlet that generates a single energy claw, whilst using the Rhino armor as a way to ram into the foe.
- He does not wield a weapon as The Middle Little Brother Meursault, and attacks with his bare hands.
- As Blade Lineage Mentor Meursault, he wields a one-edged straight sword resembling that of a hwando sword or a katana.
- As Dead Rabbits Boss Meursault, he wields a bloodied bat, covered in plating that is held in place by barbed wires.
- As John Bhalde's Wife Meursault, he wields a long purple object covered in Enkephalin.
Background[]
At some point, Meursault was employed by N Corp. He says that although he contemplated their ideals, he never came to a conclusion regarding his feelings toward them.
In Intervallo I, he mentions having dealt with Distortions in the past. In the same chapter, he explains that when he previously elaborated on his statements in detail, most people were unable to accept his point, leading to his current curt manner of speaking.
In Canto V, Meursault states he frequented clubs in the past.
In Intervallo III-1, when Outis was reprimanding Don Quixote and Heathcliff, Meursault says his mom used to reprimand him the same way Outis does.
In Canto VII, it's mentioned that he was married to John Bhalde.
Overall, very little is known about his past.
Dialogue[]
- First greeting: Meursault. Refer to me as such, Manager.
- Morning greeting: The company rules say that its employees are to get up at designated hours. It appears that most Sinners are unaware of this fact, and so are you.
- Afternoon greeting: If you ask me how I intend to spend my afternoon... No rules state what to do.
- Evening greeting: If I had to compare the times of day against each other, I prefer day to night. Darkness obscures vision, and what is hard to see is hard to understand.
- Chatter #1: Do you have any business with me, Manager? If there is a particular reason, do make it clear.
- Chatter #2: People suggest that I smile more often. Do you want that as well, Manager?
- Chatter #3: You continue to speak with me. Are you encouraged by the rules to do so?
- Idle: I shall wait here until you return.
- Deployment: Yes, if that is what you want.
- Stage entry: If the rules say so.
- Viewed in battle: Is there a problem, Manager?
- Commencing attack: I shall execute the order according to the rules.
- Enemy stagger: I am awaiting your next order.
- When John Bhalde is staggered: ...Deserved.
- Staggered: Ugh!
- Enemy killed: Done accordingly.
- Ally death: Please take care of this by the rules.
- Check passed: I made it.
- Check failed: I failed.
- Victory cry: I simply followed orders.
- Extra conditions fulfilled: It's what should have been done. Compliments are redundant.
- Defeat wail: I implore you to revise this strategy.
Trivia[]
- Like all of the Sinners, Meursault voiced a "Document Excerpt" Youtube short.
- Meursault's identities carry the highest HP of all other sinner's identities.
- Meursault was happily married with John Bhalde before he was cheated on at N corp.
- Meursault occasionally intersperses his speech with French.
- Meursault is a proficient cook, as shown during the Hell's Chicken event.
- The "SOLEIL" written on Meursault's gauntlet, meaning "Sun" in English, likely comes from the last chapter of part one of The Stranger. In this scene, Meursault shoots and kills an unnamed Arab man on the beach, while repeatedly commenting on the sweltering Sun beating down on his back and his forehead, clouding his judgement and vision.
- Meursault's voice actor, Kwon Sung-hyuk, previously voiced Mang-chi, McCullin, Gyeong-mi, Alloc, and Pluto from Library of Ruina.
- Psychologists have concluded that Meursault's source character has autism spectrum disorder.[1] It seems likely that his game counterpart took this diagnosis into account, considering his mannerisms and difficulty maintaining the fluidity of conversation.
