Overview |
Dream-Devouring Siltcurrent (T-02-21-06) is a WAW-class Abnormality encountered during Canto V. It was previously contained in the L Corp. branch in U Corp. before the whole facility was swallowed by the Pallid Whale.
It can also be encountered in the Mirror Dungeon through Abnormality events, and as a potential boss. It is also fightable in Station 2 of Line 3: MirrorClock OrangeRoad.
It is related to The Dreaming Current from Lobotomy Corporation, and is the source of the E.G.O Blind Obsession.
Appearance[]
Dream-Devouring Siltcurrent is a formidable and otherworldly entity, its appearance and abilities painting a picture of a truly nightmarish creature. This abyssal fish exudes an eerie luminescence, its body covered in fluorescent turquoise LED light tubes that appear cracked and jagged, sticking out of its back like the broken remnants of some advanced, alien technology. These light tubes not only provide a haunting glow but also serve a functional purpose, allowing the creature and those around it to breathe underwater.
The body of Dream-Devouring Siltcurrent is a seamless blend of fluorescent turquoise and shades of blue-greenish black, creating a visual effect that is both beautiful and terrifying. This coloration makes it appear as though it is perpetually in the twilight zone of the ocean, where light barely penetrates, adding to its ominous presence. The skin of the creature is smooth yet sturdy, designed to withstand the pressures of the deep ocean and the rigors of battle.
Its most striking feature is the enormous mouth that dominates its body, spanning more than two-thirds of its entire length. This gaping maw is filled with rows of sharp, glistening teeth, perfectly adapted for devouring prey whole. The sheer size of its mouth suggests that it can consume almost anything in its path, leaving little chance for escape once a victim is within its reach. The mouth itself is a dark void, contrasting sharply with the glowing turquoise of its body, and adding to the creature's terrifying visage.
Beneath this primary mouth lies a second, equally menacing mouth, revealed only when the creature is damaged. This secondary mouth is a hidden weapon, ensuring that even if its main mouth is somehow incapacitated, it can still continue to feed and defend itself. The existence of this second mouth speaks to the creature's evolutionary adaptations, designed for survival in the harshest of environments.
Dream-Devouring Siltcurrent's ability to manipulate its environment is a testament to its supernatural origins. In battle, it can transform its surroundings into an underwater realm, regardless of the original setting. This sudden shift to an aquatic environment gives it a significant advantage, disorienting opponents and playing to its strengths as a marine predator. The creature moves with a fluid grace, swimming effortlessly through the newly created underwater space.
Moreover, its extraordinary ability to swim through solid surfaces further enhances its lethality. This capability allows it to appear unexpectedly, launching surprise attacks from within walls, floors, or any solid material. This defiance of the natural order of things adds to its terrifying mystique, making it a seemingly unstoppable force.
The cracked LED light tubes on its back are more than just for show. These tubes emit a steady, fluorescent turquoise glow, illuminating the darkened underwater environment it creates. This light not only allows Dream-Devouring Siltcurrent and its allies to see in the murky depths but also provides them with the means to breathe underwater, ensuring they can fight effectively in the transformed battlefield.
Story[]
Log Writer: Don Quixote
‘Twas in the form of a pelagic creature, yet ‘twas also levitating where there was no water!
Hm, I am unsure if I could refer to it as its ‘back’. Howbeit, the creature’s back was riddled with lengthy, incandescent, fluorescent light rods.
Their purpose could not be told… yet are they not akin to pretty trinkets? Behold, ‘tis slowly glowing and dimming!
I wished to grow nearer to pet the creature, yet my fellows have held me back with all their might… shame!
Aha! I spy a chance! (The following records are indecipherable, as though they were soaked in water before the ink had the chance to dry)
→ I assigned her the task of recording the larger Abnormalities to prevent similar occurrences such as the one with… the chickens. Yet… unexpected incidents seem to occur regardless of the Abnormality’s size. (Faust)
→ … I would appreciate it if you could please share with us which Sinner you had chosen to write the records afore our first encounters with the Abnormalities. (Yi Sang)
→ So this is the first time I’m experiencing the sensation of drowning 12 times. Simultaneously. … Let’s… try not to make this a repeat occurrence. Please… (Dante)
Soon after the kerfuffle began, it immediately flooded the area, submerging not only itself but our fine company as well!
… Ah, I am feeling a terrible bundle of guilt for what the mistake that I have committed out of mine impatience has wrought. Prithee, understand that I had to…
Yet! ‘Twas I! Who hath, earlier than anyone,
… figured out the function of those fluorescent light-sticks!
What may be the function of those light-sticks, you ask? They are none other than tools that allows us to breathe! Using that stick, I was able to breathe underwater!
Though I am yet unaware of the reason, the sticks are rather prone to breaking and shattering! ‘Tis a conundrum indeed… If this be a tool for breathing, then why is it so brittle, one must wonder!
So, I had a thought! If this sea-beast makes us unable to breathe… what if I were to share this stick among us?!
Just as I had thought! Breaking the stick to pieces and sharing them with mine comrades allowed us to breathe!
Forsooth, we may now properly focus on battling the sea-beast…!
Once we were allowed to breathe, there was naught too difficult about the way the sea-beast battled! The moment we are availed air is a moment of our victory, forsooth!
Yet I scribble on, in hopes of reducing the harm it may regardless deliver unto mine allies!
The sticks one may break off the sea-beast are rather sharp.
As I have written afore, its primary means of attack is to body-slam us with its rather sizeable bulk.
Now, combine these two truths together!
I, Don Quixote, hath come across a revelation!
What if we were to shatter the sticks into sharp, pointy pieces and draw the sea-beast’s attention…?
We may foil its charge by placing it between us and the sea-beast! Truly a plan capable of capturing two birds with one stone, is it not?
Outis called it… called it… barry? I believe Outis called it a barry-kate!
A strategy oft used in warfare, indeed.
Let this be a useful guide to thee, dear Manager Esquire!
Mirror Dungeon Event[]
The voice speaks.
'Yes. The deep sea is a dark place.'
'But at the end of that dark path is a light.'
'Because there are things that shine in the dark there.'
'Let's go there.'
'And we'll shine brighter than anything in that dark place.'
'We were all abandoned, yes. But we all had dreams, too. Remember?'
'Well, let's make our dreams come true. Let's sink together into the depths.'
The dim fluorescent lights impaling the entity's back flicker.

Trivia[]
- Dream-Devouring Siltcurrent relies heavily on the symbolism of sinking deep into despair, but by its own volition. It's blindly chasing an obsession in the form of the fluorescent lights which, when reached, will surely fulfil it. This mirrors Ishmael's journey for revenge on Ahab, and is most likely why Ishmael resonates strongly with it.
- In the trailer that was streamed by Project Moon, its name was 沈む蛍光 (Sinking Fluorescence) and its E.G.O was called 深淵航路 (Abyssal Route).
- In the E.G.O art for Blind Obsession, the Abnormality is depicted without the set of teeth on the bottom of its lower jaw.
- Prior to Mirror of the Wuthering, Dream-Devouring Siltcurrent was the only Abnormality to have two possible E.G.O Gift rewards in its Mirror Dungeon event.
- Both Dream-Devouring Slitcurrent and The Dreaming Current share a similar name, appearance, and themes of reaching for an unobtainable dream with both referencing a grassy field and the ocean specifically.
